PPS is a high-performance, semicrystalline engineering plastic known for exceptional heat resistance (continuous use to 220°C, short term to 260°C), inherent flame retardancy ( V-0 without additives), and outstanding chemical resistance to virtually all solvents, acids, and bases. Typical applications include automotive coolant systems, pump impellers, LED reflectors, and chemical pump components. Modification is almost always required: glass fiber reinforced PPS (40%) provides high stiffness and creep resistance for structural parts. Carbon fiber reinforced PPS offers even higher strength and modulus, plus electrical conductivity for anti-static applications, such as semiconductor handling components. Mineral-filled PPS improves dimensional stability and reduces warpage for connector housings. PTFE or graphite-filled PPS provides low friction and high wear resistance for bearings and seals in high-temperature environments. High-flow PPS grades enable miniaturized connectors and thin-wall housing. Laser-weldable PPS grades allow hermetic sealing for automotive sensors. Hydrolysis-resistant PPS is used in hot water and steam environments.
